GERMANY - LATE 1970'S

MY 2008 GERMANY TRIP - PAGE # 2

In late July and early August 2008 my wife, Angie, and I traveled back to Germany. It was the first time for me since I left back in 1979. It was the first time ever for Angie. Here are the photos we took while we were in Hoechst and at the old McNair Kaserne.

These photos are of the area where the Theater, Rec Center, and Library used to be.

Photo taken from just beyond the theater and looking back towards the Kaserne. You can just make out the north-west corner of the Kaserne in the distance.

A left-to-right collage of the area. The theater is still in use. It looks like the rec. center now house a child daycare center. Finally, the library is now home to a genuine Gestatte.

I would like to stress the feeling I had in this area. It seemed to be so laid back, so unstressed, so family-oriented; much unlike I remembered it as it was 30 years ago.

Has the area really changed that much? Yes, I think it has. More importantly, I also think that it is I that has mellowed the most in all these years.

Humbling.
